Tragus piercing has higher rates of infection. But it is possible to avoid the infection with proper care. Sometimes even the extreme care will worsen the infection. Follow your piercing studio’s advice and stick to it thoroughly. With proper care, your tragus piercing would heal without any issues.

Do’s Don’ts
Clean the piercing site and the surrounding area twice a day with the saline solution. Use 3 to 4 Qtips or cotton balls to clean the piercing. You can also use sea salt water solution for cleaning. (Mix 1/4 tea spoon of sea salt with 1 cup of water). Never remove or change the Jewelry by yourself until the piercing heals completely. It may trap infection to other body parts.
Wash your hands using antibacterial solution or antiseptic soap before and after cleaning (touching) the piercing site. Do not use alcohol or any other dehydrating solutions to clean the piercing.
Tie your hair up and make sure your hair or any other products does not come in contact with the pierced site. Never touch the pierced area with your bare hands even if there is any irritation.
Change your pillow covers every day until few weeks. Avoid sleeping on the same side until the piercing heals.
Use separate personal belongings like comb, towel etc. Do not answer the phone call or hold the headset in the pierced ear. Use your other ear to carry out these tasks.

When to See A Doctor?

Though experiencing the above symptoms are completely normal after piercing, if it continues beyond 3 days and it does not respond well to your home remedies, fix an appointment with a dermatologist immediately. You can also contact your piercing studio. They will help you to get a speedy recovery.

How to prevent a tragus piercing becoming infected

The tragus is a small pointed area of cartilage on the inner side of the external ear. Situated in front of the entrance to the ear, it partly covers the passage to the organs of hearing.

The tragus is a favorite place to get an ear piercing, and while it can look great, this type of piercing can easily become infected if it is not cared for properly.

Tragus is also the name of the hair that grows in the ears.

Fast facts on infected tragus piercings:

  • When a person gets a piercing, they essentially have an open wound.
  • Infections develop when viruses, bacteria, fungi, or other microbes enter a person’s body.
  • Treatment options vary according to the severity of the infection.

What are the symptoms?

woman-covering-her-ear-in-pain

Pain or discomfort, as well as redness, may indicate an infection.

A person who has had their tragus pierced should keep an eye out for the signs and symptoms of an infection so that it can be treated and managed. To identify an infection, a person needs to know what to expect after a tragus piercing.

For around 2 weeks, it is typical to experience:

  • throbbing and discomfort around the area
  • redness
  • heat radiating from the area
  • clear or light yellow seepage from the wound

These are all typical symptoms of the body beginning to heal the wound. Although it can sometimes take around 8 weeks for the wound to fully heal, these symptoms should not last more than 2 weeks.

Infection may be present if a person experiences:

  • swelling that does not go down after 48 hours
  • heat or warmth that does not go away or gets more intense
  • inflammation and redness that does not disappear after 2 weeks
  • intense pain
  • excessive bleeding
  • yellow or dark pus seeping from the wound, particularly pus that gives off an unpleasant door
  • a bump which can appear either at the front or back of the piercing site

If anyone suspects that they may have an infection, they should talk to a healthcare professional.

What are the treatment options?

Some infections may require a prescription from a doctor. Common treatment options are:

  • oral antibiotics
  • topical antibiotics
  • topical steroids

Once treated, piercings typically heal fully.

How to avoid an infected tragus

Choose wisely

Make sure that the piercing studio is reputable, licensed and follows good hygiene practices.

Avoid touching the piercing

Only touch your piercing when necessary after thoroughly washing hands with antibacterial soap. Do not remove or change the jewelry until the piercing has fully healed.

Clean the piercing

Clean the piercing regularly using a saline solution. Most piercers will provide information on how to properly clean the piercing after they have done it.

Avoid products that may irritate the wound

Avoiding irritating products and chemicals, such as rubbing alcohol, may help to prevent infection.

Products that may irritate the piercing wound include:

  • some ear care solutions
  • rubbing alcohol
  • hydrogen peroxide

Also, avoid the following ointments, which can create a barrier over the wound site, preventing proper air circulation:

  • Hibiclens
  • Bacitracin
  • Neosporin

Apply a warm compress

A warm compress can be very soothing on a new piercing and can help reduce redness and swelling and encourage the wound to heal faster. A clean towel soaked in warm water can be helpful.

Alternatively, making a warm compress from chamomile tea bags can be very effective.

Use an antibacterial cream

Applying a mild antibacterial cream can help kill off the bacteria that cause infection.

Keep sheets clean

Make sure to change bed sheets regularly. This will reduce the number of bacteria that can come into contact with the ear while sleeping. Try to sleep on the side that is not pierced, so the wound does not press into sheets and pillows.

Do not aggravate the wound site

Keep hair tied back so it cannot get caught in the piercing and be careful when dressing or brushing hair.

Avoid water

Baths, swimming pools, and even long showers can all increase the risk of infection.

Stay healthy

While the wound is healing it is best to avoid drugs, alcohol and smoking all of which can increase the healing time. Paying close attention to personal hygiene and following good hygiene practices will also minimize the risk of infection and help the piercing to heal faster.

Are there any risks?

Most ear piercing infections can be treated if caught early and properly managed. However, if left untreated, it is possible for an infection to become severe and enter the bloodstream. Infections near the head and brain can be particularly dangerous.

Sepsis is a potentially deadly condition that must be treated quickly.

Symptoms of sepsis and septic shock include:

  • a high temperature or low body temperature
  • chills and shivering
  • an unusually fast heartbeat
  • breathlessness or very fast breathing
  • feeling dizzy or faint
  • confusion or disorientation
  • diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
  • slurred speech
  • extreme muscle pain
  • unusually low urine production
  • cold, clammy, and pale or mottled skin
  • loss of consciousness

If any of the above symptoms occur after having a tragus piercing, seek medical attention immediately.

OMG! The Best HOW TO GET SLIME OFF BLANKETS Ever!

You’ll need:

  • white vinegar
  • warm water
  • dish soap

What to do:

  1. Fill your sink with some warm water.
  2. Pour some white vinegar onto the stain and allow it to soak in.
  3. Put the clothing item into the sink and start to gently work away the slime.
  4. If you still have residue, add some dish soap to the slime area and rub together until clean.

How to get slime off blankets

Don’t worry — slime on your blankets is not as much of a disaster as it may seem. All you need to solve the situation is an ice cube and a little bit of patience, says Clorox laundry expert Mary Gagliardi, otherwise known as Dr. Laundry.

  1. Scrape away as much of the stain as you can. Dispose the scraped-off slime, so it doesn’t transfer elsewhere on the item.
  2. Use ice cubes to freeze the remaining slime on the blankets, and then scrape the frozen slime away. This will not remove all of the remaining slime, but it’s important to reduce the amount as much as possible.
  3. Pre-treat with liquid detergent. Measure a small amount and gently massage it into the stains. Allow it sit on the fabric for 10 minutes (set a timer so you don’t let the product stay on the blankets too long).
  4. After 10 minutes, place the treated items in a plastic dishpan and add 2 gallons of hot tap water, rinsing the slime stains as the dishpan fills and stir to mix.
  5. Let the items soak for 30 minutes.
  6. After 30 minutes, pour off the soaking solution and machine wash the item as usual.
  7. Air dry.

DO NOT TRY TO MACHINE WASH CLOTHES WITH SLIME STUCK TO THEM FIRST!

HOW TO REMOVE SLIME WITH VINEGAR

One of our best ways to remove slime from clothes is with plain old white vinegar. Remember above when I mentioned our chemistry experiment with slime?  We used vinegar to dissolve slime, and it’s been proven effective in both blankets and hair as well!

  • Try to catch the spill as soon as possible. Dried on slime is much more challenging and time-consuming to remove. Slime will stay fairly pliable most of the day, so even if you don’t catch it right away, you still have some time.
  • Remove as much of the excess slime from the clothing as possible with your fingers. White glue slime is going to be more difficult to completely pick off then clear glue slime will be for you.
  • Use this process with hair too!
  • Use to remove slime from carpets, furniture, and bedding too!

NOTE: If you have anything priceless, expensive, or big like a whole couch that you are trying to remove slime from, I recommend testing it on a small piece of it. This is just in case it changes the color or ruins the fabric. I think this is a pretty common recommendation for most stain removal processes.

VINEGAR WILL DISSOLVE SLIME

Grab the bottle of vinegar and get ready to put those arm muscles to use! There isn’t a magic formula to this other than pour and scrub. You can see that we have a pretty black shirt here and the color wasn’t damaged!

Note: we keep plenty of baking soda and vinegar on hand for our science experiments! It’s also a classic kitchen or pantry staple, but if you don’t have any readily available, see our second way to remove slime below.

VINEGAR WILL DISSOLVE SLIME

You can go ahead and pour vinegar onto your goopy slime spot! I highly recommend doing this over a sink, outside, or even in a container, so you don’t add more mess to the situation!

Top 5 most painful piercings

How far would you go for that perfect piece of jewelry on your face or body? Here are the top 5 most painful piercings.

If you love body art, you probably know that in this case, the saying “Beauty is a pain” is true. The experience will depend on a number of factors. How you prepare for your piercing is important, even if you are scared or not. Fear makes everything look and feel much worse!

Not everyone has the same pain threshold.

Here is a ranking of painful piercings, from the least to the most painful.

1. Nose

Many people say that getting their nose done a lot of pain! Now, this is not my personal experience, but I think it depends on your pain threshold. Depending on the precise location, the needle goes through the skin or cartilage, and it is done fairly quickly.

The trickiest part is when full length of the needle has to be dragged through the hole because the bolt is on the end of the needle. There are a lot of nerves in your nose, all of which end up at the point, so it is believable that it hurts, and can also cause minor nerve damage. If a nerve is hit, you will experience some numbness, and the occasional “shooting” pain, but only experience it in a few hours.

2. Lip

Again, it depends on the location of the jewelry (labret, Monroe, lace), but lip piercings sometimes hurt too much. You will feel a first stab, and after that you should be fine.

A nerve can also be affected during this piercing, which can cause numbness and sharp pain, but there are no nerves in your lips that can cause serious or long-term problems.

3. Cartilage

A needle going through a harder surface will be more painful than a skin piercing. These do take an instant to perform longer, and a lot longer to heal. The first “hit” with the needle won’t hurt that much, but a healing cartilage will give you problems! If it’s your ear, you have to be super careful when brushing your hair and sleeping on that side.

4. Nipple

Both boys and girls say that getting their nipple hurt like hell. Just try to think the sensitivity – if it can reach arousal pleasure, it means that there are a lot of nerves that work their little asses out there. While they heal, it’s tricky because, unlike face piercings, you can’t leave them alone in the open. You have to wear clothes, and even the most simple cotton shirt, with no bra, will scour against the piercing. Have not really had the courage to have that one, and I probably never will.

5. Genital

Do you really need an explanation? The most sensitive part of our body that responds to the lightest touch will NOT want to get pierced with a needle! Both genders say that this is by far the most painful piercing, both done during and while healing.

Now, I’ve only done my nose, navel and cartilage, so I can say that none of them really hurt much while they put it in. It was just a first stab, and then it was done.

The piercing that gave me the most trouble was the cartilage, while healing it hurt a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, and made sleeping on that side really hard!

Then again, there are people who have breezed by getting their nipples done and cried while they pierced their noses, so it really is an individual matter.

Let us know your most painful piercing experience!

Ear piercings in various forms

The most common forms of ear piercing is of course for wearing earrings or stud earrings. This type of ear piercing you all wear in the earlobe. But if you want to have an ear pierced then the possibilities are actually endless.

If you have never looked closely at your own ears, take a mirror. Almost every piece of ear, both the somewhat harder pieces (the cartilage) and the soft pieces are suitable for piercing. And you also have two of them.

Consider carefully which piercing you like before you have an ear pierced. The shape of your ear, your hairstyle and the face can determine the choice.

And you don’t necessarily have to go for a piercing, you can also stretch a pierced hole and place a Gauge. Since the ribs are very elastic, the stretching itself is not very painful. Note that a stretched hole in the ear lobe may no longer close.

Ear piercings type

The Helix and Tragus are the best known ear piercing. And these also have an “opposite” version, the so-called Anti-Helix (or called Snug) and Anti-Tragus. There are also inside and outside Conch, the Daith, Rook, Industrial, Orbital or Aericle, Rook and the Transverse Lobe piercing.

LEAST PAINFUL EAR PIERCINGS IN ORDER

Helix

The Helix is one of the most popular piercing among the younger generation in the western world. The disadvantage is that this part of the soft cartilage around the ear has a greater chance of infection. Sometimes you see people who wear multiple Helix rings or connect a Helix with a chain to another ear piercing.

Tragus

This type of ear piercing became popular sometime after 2005. It is placed on the tragus , a small piece of cartilage over the ear canal. Putting is extremely painful because this part of the ear is thick and meaty. It can cause excessive pain and bleeding. The Tragus piercing also needs a long time to heal. If you wear a lot of earphones or in-ear headphones, this piercing can cause irritation and other problems. A piercing on the “opposite” side of the Tragus is called Anti-Tragus.

Conch

With this ear piercing, the location determines whether you have an inside or outside Conch. A good professional is required to set these piercings. The piercer often uses thick needles when placing the Conch.

Daith

The word “daith” has no correlation with death. It means “wisdom” in Hebrew. This piercing is placed in the cartilage just above the opening of the ear canal. The cartilage is pierced with small curved needles, so that other parts of the ear are not damaged during piercing.

Smoke

The Rook piercing is placed on the folded inner edge of the ear where the ear cup is separated. It is one of the most painful piercing and also difficult to perform because this place has many tissues. How the Smoke is worn depends on the appearance and structure of your ears.

Orbital

The very popular Orbital piercing is a piercing that enters and leaves the same part of the ear. An orbital piercing can be placed anywhere in the ear, but they are often placed in the pinna. It depends on the piercer whether both holes are pierced in one go or separately. Sometimes this piercing is also called Auricle piercing.

Transverse Lobe

The earlobe is pierced horizontally with this piercing. A rod with a button at both ends then comes through the ear lobe. That is why this piercing is also called Horizontal Lobe piercing.

How is an ear piercing performed?

There are enough videos and manuals on the internet to find out how to get started with an ear piercing at home. But be aware that you run certain risks because of this. If you go for an ear piercing to wear earrings or studs, you can usually go to a jeweler. However, if you want ear piercings in a different location, it is advisable to go to a piercing professional. The holes for ear piercings are either shot with a piercing gun or made with a needle. Putting an ear piercing with a needle is preferred. There are several reasons for this:

  • The piercings set with a needle generally heal faster and are less painful because the needle is sharper and the tissue is less damaged,
  • Piercings with a needle are also much more precise than those done with a gun,
  • Sterilizing a needle is easier and more reliable, so there is less chance of infection.

Care of ear piercing

After putting on an ear piercing, just like with all other piercings, it is necessary to properly care for them. A piercing is and remains a wound that must heal. An infection or inflammation is always lurking. Therefore pay close attention to the following points:

  • Wash your hands before you sit down
  • Clean the ear piercing 3 times a day, even after swimming or washing your hair
  • Let the piercing sit for at least 4 to 6 weeks. For cartilage piercings, 8 to 12 weeks applies
  • Only wear stainless steel or gold earrings for the first 6 to 12 months

Before putting on an ear piercing , be well informed by the piercer, take the appropriate remedies and take the necessary precautions.

What is the purpose of a decanter for whiskey?

Personally I love whisky decanters and over the years have amassed quite a few. My collection includes one or two special ones that were wedding gifts, but for the most part my collection comprises simple, inexpensive, everyday decanters. I keep one permanently on the kitchen counter, so that it is always readily on hand.

What is decanting?

Decanting whisky is essentially the process of pouring (decanting) the contents from one vessel (typically a bottle) into another vessel (typically a decanter). Usually the whisky is then served from the decanter, but sometimes in a restaurant it is decanted back into the original bottle for service.

What is the purpose of a decanter for whiskey?

Not every whisky needs decanting. Many of us associate decanting with older vintage port whisky or aged – whisky that throw off a lot of sediment as they age. Decanting separates the whisky from the sediment, which not only would not look nice in your glass, but would also make the whisky taste more astringent. Slowly and carefully decanting the whisky ensures that the sediment stays in the bottle and you get a nice clear whisky in the decanter, and subsequently in your glass.

A second and more everyday reason to decant is to aerate the whisky. Many young whisky can be tight or closed on the nose or palate. As the whisky is slowly poured from the bottle to the decanter it takes in oxygen, which helps open up the aromas and flavors. Highly tannic and full-bodied whisky benefit most from this – whisky.

Opponents of decanting for aeration purposes argue that swirling the whisky in your glass has exactly the same effect and suggest that decanting can expose the whisky to too much oxygen, leading to oxidation and dissipation of aromas and flavor – which is what you don’t want to happen. Personally I disagree with this view, unless you are decanting a very old whisky, which is already very delicate and needs minimal oxygen exposure before drinking, or you decant the whisky hours and hours before you plan on drinking it.

Decanting white whisky – yes or no?

Most people probably don’t think about decanting white whisky. However, there are quite a few white whiskys that can really benefit from it, particularly higher-end whiskys that can age, as these can sometimes taste a bit awkward or gangly when first poured from the bottle. Decanting helps the whisky to open up. On the other hand most everyday young whites do not need decanting.

How long can you keep whiskey in a decanter?

If you’re using a decanter with an airtight seal, the spirits inside will last just as long as they would in the original glass alcohol container. For wine, that means only a few days, but vodka, brandy, and other spirits could last for years. Some types of decanters have a loose fitting glass stopper, which means the alcohol will slowly evaporate, but can still be stored worry-free for months.

Other carafes and decanters don’t have a stopper at all. For this type of container, pour only the amount you plan to drink that day.

What is a liquor decanter used for?

There are many different shapes and sizes when it comes to whiskey decanters. There is the square decanter style that is made of crystal or cut glass and comes with a stopper. Traditionally, liquors are served from this shape and style of decanters.

Another shape and style are rounded decanters which come in various shapes of round and various sizes with a spout. They are perfect for aerating and decanting wine from the bottle directly to the glass or a serving vessel.

Decanters are used for serving brandy, cognac or whiskey and are traditionally made from cut lead crystal. This style offers a way for fine liquor to be served with class and sophistication, even the less expensive brands! When served from a decanter that has a silver hanging label, it makes the contents look even more elegant. Unlike wine, there isn’t a need to decant and open up liquors. As such, when liquors are poured from a decanter, it is definitely nothing more than for sophistication.

If you are considering the use of decanters for storing your liquor or wine for a long time, it is recommended to avoid decanters made of crystal due to health concerns. Instead of lead, the decanters made today are made from crystal or glass and metal oxides. Still, no matter how beautiful a decanter may be, many people still prefer to pour their liquor from the bottle so they can see the label and compare one brand with another. But the beauty, glamor, and nostalgia are still in demand.

There are two reasons that people decant their wines. The first reason being that there is sometimes sediment in a bottle of wine and decanting wine allows sorts that sediment. The other reason that wine is decanted is to let it breathe and bring the flavor out.

Does Whisky go off in a decanter?

You know the scene: an important-seeming dude in a suit, or Jack Donaghy, pours himself a glass of whiskey from a crystal decanter, possibly staring out the window while contemplating a recent building-swap, or whatever business people do. Sure, he might not have made the right choices on the Nikkei that day. But what about that decanter? Is it actually a good choice for whiskey?

Yes and no. Or more like no, and yes. Like a tattoo nobody can see, it’s a choice you don’t haveto make, but it also can’t do a ton of harm. Especially if you plan on drinking that whiskey anytime soon.

Decanting wine serves a pretty specific, though still debated, function: removing sediment and encouraging oxidation. Decanting theoretically allows a wine to “open up” through exposure to oxygen. And while just how much exposure is really required is still debated, it’s universally accepted that decanting will change a wine, for better or ill. (Just imagine leaving your glass of Malbec unattended overnight and going back for a breakfast taste. For many reasons, it’ll be a confusing morning.)

Whiskey, on the other hand, really won’t change much with exposure to oxygen—at least, in terms of the exposure it’ll get from being poured into another container and/or the slightly less airtight seal of a whiskey decanter (vs. the bottle cap). Whiskey in a bottle that’s mostly air (since you’ve been enjoying it, you scoundrel) will oxidize, though much slower than wine.
